Access assessment
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements will be referred for access testing. Such applicants, depending on the outcome of the assessment, may be offered the opportunity to enroll for an extended programme in order to obtain the same mainstream qualification at the end of their study career. In practice this means a student will complete a three-year programme in four years.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Prospective mature learners may also apply for Recognition of Prior Learning ►and work experience related to the field of study. RPL refers to formal assessment and acknowledgement of skills, knowledge and competencies acquired by means of work and/or life experiences. For candidates who apply for admission via RPL the following procedure applies:
-
The candidate should submit a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their competence to undertake the proposed study programme.
-
RPL can only be granted against explicit learning outcomes of programmes.
-
The application is considered by the relevant academic unit, and recommended by the academic manager to the Faculty Management Committee.
-
If the application is approved by the Faculty Management Committee, the applicant is allowed to register for the degree.
